The Network, started by super-agent Paul Fisher, is exactly that; a network of small town agencies who’s powers combined form a shift in the winds for the model industry. The Network brings a new standard and a large breath of fresh air to the status quo.
Paul Fisher can share with you his claims to fame, representing models like Naomi Campbell, Carol Alt, and Stephanie Seymour, and he can also share with you the mistakes he made along the way. He admits that the industry is a hard place to resist temptation, and that his motivation for being an agent once revolved solely around girls, partying, and money.
But after leaving the industry, he has come back with a renewed fervor and a new mission. Paul recently explained his goal for the Network in an interview with Blank Magazine.
The Network is a community of modeling agencies who really care. We care about the images the fashion industry portrays on the pages of magazines and in advertising. We care about the welfare of all players in our industry, agents, models and the clients. We are here to change the industry. We are here to uncover the light that is in the business. I am just someone trying to do the good that I can, many others are doing much more than I. My goal is to share what I have learned with an industry that has been very good to me. An industry that I failed when I was a selfish person who only cared about myself. Change is coming, and The Network is at the forefront of that change. I am surrounded by incredible people who believe as I do, that change is necessary. It is important for the youth of today and tomorrow.
As passionate as Paul was about launching the careers of models before, he is twice as passionate about launching young small-town agencies like The Matthew Agency into a new level of success. The power of the Network will allow an agency like The Matthew Agency to have their models seen directly by the same big-name movers and shakers in the industry as any of the world’s biggest agencies. But the most important part of the Network is the philosophy of giving back.
Paul will expect each of his agencies in the Network to express and ingrain in their talent the importance of giving back. The “to whom much is given, much is expected” message is not an option for him. He learned first hand how the wrong focus can destroy a model, an agent, and the people they love.
Models who find success through the Network will be expected to use what they have been given for good. Cliche perhaps, but true. This isn’t just about donating money, but donating time, energy, love, effort, knowledge. Paul truly believes that only through “giving until it hurts” can someone be truly blessed with success. And through these efforts, Paul also plans to set up models for a life-time of success, not success that will fade when their perfect skin, toned muscles, or gorgeous looks do.
I started the Matthew Agency nearly three years ago. Money has ebbed and flowed. Some of our talent has come and gone. But many of our models have become a family for me. From the day I opened my doors, I wanted the Matthew Agency to be something different. Of course I wanted success, of course I wanted money to live comfortably. But in my heart, I wanted to see the young talent I found to succeed! I wanted to watch their dreams come true, and I wanted to be the one who did that for them!
The day I received the email from the Network saying Paul Fisher wanted to speak with me on a phone call, I knew things were about to change. The Matthew Agency is now part of the amazing vision of Paul, and a member of the Network team. The amount of love and support the poured out from Paul’s team immediately was unconditional and tremendous. Their support lifted me up. It was an incredible feeling.
And so, here’s to new adventures and new friends. Here’s to a network of support and knowledge. Here’s to a new vision and new means to accomplish it! I cannot wait to see what this relationship with the Network brings to the Matthew Agency, and more importantly, to our amazing men and women!
